hello zoners. i waswondering, how much money do you invest in your hobbie? some hobbies are costly! woodwork for example. you need machine, tools, and lots of space. others are feeseable. like herb gardening doesnt cost lots and needs a small space. which brings me to a question.is there a center in your city, or town you visit which host the equipment required to develop your hobbie? or do you invest the money and time plus the space needed for your particular hobbie?
For now, my hobby is sleeping lol! Its cheap, harmless, and keeps me out of trouble!
Running costs some money, in order to maintain good shoes and clothing. The shoes are probably the most expensive part. Now, if I had a bicycle, I think that would be a hobby I would put a lot more money towards in order to take care of the bike. I want a Mongoose but they are all so damn expensive.
I'm an avid gamer. A brand new game generally costs around $60 here in Canada, and I'll probably buy one once every few months, depending on if something has captured my interest. Other games, cost quite a bit less. It can get slightly expensive, but as I've gotten older, I've gotten far for choosy.
I think all sport becomes expencive Ryan when you want to extend your participation. Goalball in the last year for me has been unthinkably expencive. some national teams are funded we weren't and had to pay for practically everything but tournament fee's.
but I know runners, cyclists who do it for a hobby and say how much it can cost.
I've got quite a few hobbies. Gaming can cost a lot if you buy a lot of them, but I love the old-style text-based MUDs, which is why I've got Vipmud on my computer and am doing Alteraeon and Asylum among others. I download most of my music now from Youtube, and that saves me tons. But I love to gamble; not so much that I'm stealing from other people, but I make sure that I can afford to lose it before I go. Instead of going to my high school class reunion this July, I'm gunna spend a weekend at a casino since to me that's more fun. And of course, I've always got my Victor going now for books. When I get a Braille display, I'm gunna spend probably some more time reading Braille books again.
I make jewelry and play goalball, both of which can be prohibitively expensive. Thankfully my team is funded, but equipment isn't, and this year I have to replace my shoes, knee pads, and hip pads. ..
Jewelry making can be expensive... my startup costs were quite high, especially if you are buying tools and a large variety of beads and findings... not to mention organizers... but I am able to get coupons on a regular basis from my fav. bead shop.
My husband is a model train geek... so that again gets expensive. He now has a table, so he can get his trains up and running, but it has taken him four years to get to that point. He has scrimped and saved and gotten his trains peace by peace... his best friend, on the other hand, generally threw down a bunch of money up front to get his set up right away.
True, Joe. Especially if you want to make it to the pros, you have to buy quality equipment to perform at your best, and that usually isn't cheap.
I play drums for hobby and I built a practice studio for it. and the musical instrument it self. man! music is really expensive.
and I also ride a tandem bike. still expensive if you want a competent parts for it, and not to mention the gear you wear.
I'm actually going to get my first guitar today, and it's going to be for free! Someone got it and decided they don't want it, and they didn't want to sell it for anything. It is an Ibanez acoostic guitar which is exactly the one I want too. I guess the most costly part is going to be getting new strings every so often.
congrats. ebanez is a nice brand.
Well, nitting is my hobby! It's not too expensive, depending on what one makes, but, quality thread and materials for a well made baby alfet can be costly, but I enjoy it. The piano is more than a hobby, but I make sure to have it tuned regularly, and that costs a great deal of money, and, the naintenence of the keys, cleaning it and things is really expensive. Anything for an elegant beast in great shape!
Folk singing is kind of a new hobby for me, within the last year or so, and so is music collecting. luckily they intersect and so I spennd money for both. I like high quality music so youtube does not cut it. Sometimes trading music works, but I have bought quite a few cds now that no one bothers to collect. I have a pretty big collection of folk music now and physical cds costs more then m4a files through itunes. And, there is buying cds to burn music on. and usb drives and hard drives to store them all. talking about drives I am also a computer nerd, so that also takes money. tech usually cost a lot and one of my side hobby a consequence of being a tech nerd is tech support. That's barely a hobby, but yeah. I am also a writer, which is fairly inexpensive unless I want to join writing clubs. Hmmmm not sure what else.
Depends on what you consider as hobbies and what you consider as investment. Hobbies can often be cheap, however, if you want to get serious with your hobbies that come a point that you need to invest in your hobbies. For example, sports for some could consider as hobby either by going to a sport game or participating casually in sport. When you get to the point that you are serious about it, that is where the cost involve on investing your hobby to be sustainable interest.
As a person with multi hobbies/interests, i often found that i invest a lot on it. Some investment will take me to where i wish it will, e.g. Goalball, or Art, some will just plainly be a hobby/interest type of thing. e.g. Technology, etc
